The History of our Lady of Perpetual Succour convent school

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Convent Primary started on 3rd June 1987 & Upper Primary on 8th June 2015, managed by the sisters of the Congregation of the Carmelite Religious. (CCR)

In 1984  with request of the local people the Sisters, opened a kindergarten class with just twelve students on roll the beginning was tough. The sisters used to conduct the class in the verandah because of lack of space. Very soon the number of students began to increase parents requested that we should at least start the primary school.

The day dawned on 3rd   June, 1987 with the permission of the Education Department we took the challenge of moulding the thirty nine very young minds and hearts of the students in Std I. each year one class was added. By 1990 the school had reached std IV. Finally the sisters had the joy of seeing the school grow as each class now had an added division.

The children had many programmes during the year: Christmas celebration, Children’s Day, Teacher’s Day, Fete, Fancy dress and much more. The first Annual Gathering was held in 1990 when Sr. Doris Figarado was in charge of the School. Every year Parents wait and long to witness the Annual Day Function and see their children on the stage.

In 1992 the medium of instruction was switched from English to the regional language, Konkani. Teachers were paid by the Government.

The students were encouraged to take part in various competitions in the school and in the district, state and national level. In 2007 two of our students were selected for the national level Drawing Competition. For the last two years our school secured the first place at the Taluka level in the ‘clean and beautiful school’ contest. The children also took part in the Bud bud Geet and ‘Copy Writing’ competition in other schools. For seven years consecutively our students won the 1st and 2nd prizes.
